Blue Collar Redo

February 8th, 2012

Man, it must be something about February.  There’s not a whole lot of cool fun days to share, there’s not a lot of math-y things you can do with the date, and well, the doldrums of the mind even sort of appear.  It’s a working month, and it seems I  have felt this way before, maybe even twice.  Both in February.  That’s a little scary.

So, I am off to the pool and then to the old grind stone.  But I will keep remembering the greatness of the glory that I walk in the light of.

9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
10 With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O LORD;
Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have told of
All the ordinances of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Your precepts
And regard Your ways.
16 I shall delight in Your statutes;
I shall not forget Your word. Psalm 119:9-16

A Great Question

January 24th, 2012

I saw this question yesterday and thought it would be a good one to pass along.

What are you doing today that will outlive you?

That’s a pretty good motivator – assuming you are leaving a legacy that impacts others in a positive way!

Anyway, think about that today as you go.

18 Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come. Psalm 71:18 New International Version (NIV)

Prayer for Peace

January 12th, 2012

Just a simple prayer this morning.

14 Turn from evil and do good;
   seek peace and pursue it.   Psalm 34:14 New International Version (NIV)

Break It Down

January 10th, 2012

Yesterday I started a fairly painful treatment on my knees called A-STYM therapy. When I say painful, I man ‘ouchie wawa’ painful. However this pain is supposed to bring about healing. The whole idea of the treatment is to break down the scar tissue and to create trauma for the muscles and tendons. This process will restart the healing process and eventually things should be better. YEAH!  So the painful process of breaking down begins to create healing.

So it is with our spirits as well. When we are haughty and self seeking and go about it on our own, bad things may happen. But the Creator says he likes a broken spirit.

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise. (Psalm 51:17 NIV)

Because then he can lift us up. So today embrace your brokenness and let God be the healer!  Then you like my patella tendon, can be on your way to better days!

This is the Day

January 9th, 2012

Yesterday in our Sunday morning worship we sang Zoe Group’s A New Anointing, which Andrew has been singing as he has transversed the house since that time.  He created such an ear worm that all of us (minus the sleeping teenager) sung this song during the morning while preparing for the day.  The part of the song he seems stuck on was this verse:

Let Your glory fill the earth!

As we declare
This is the day, this is the day
This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice, I will rejoice
I will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
This is the day that the Lord has made

That’s a pretty good way to get started, even on a rainy cool Monday morning.  Today, remember this is the day the Lord has made, and he made it for you.  It’s another empty canvas waiting for you to paint!  Paint something that will bring him glory!

24 This is the day which the LORD has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24New American Standard Bible (NASB)
